January 21st 2016
Beringea, the international growth capital investor which manages the ProVen VCTs, is continuing its fast growth strategy by expanding the team at all levels
(London, UK) Karen McCormick has been appointed Chief Investment Officer. Karen – who has been with Beringea for eight years – has been responsible for several of Beringea’s leading investments, including Monica Vinader, Watchfinder and BlisMedia. Prior to joining Beringea, Karen was a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, and previously served as Director of the watch division at Swiss Army/Wenger. Karen takes over from Trevor Hope, who is leaving Beringea after 12 years.
Beringea has also made three additional new appointments. Chris Bone is joining Beringea Growth Finance, which provides debt-based finance to SMEs, as Investment Director, having recently been with Clydesdale’s growth finance arm. Anne O’Loughlin is bolstering Beringea’s presence in the North as Sales Manager – and Oliver Ashton also joins the sales team, as Business Development Executive.
These new appointments follow a number of other new appointments in 2015, including the significant expansion of the firm’s investment team that saw Beringea welcome Maria Wagner as Investment Director – and Lillian Li and Rob Dagger as Investment Analysts.
Stuart Veale, Beringea’s Managing Partner, said, “These appointments mark a further significant development in the growth of Beringea. We are delighted to have brought Chris, Anne and Oliver on board and we are delighted to be promoting Karen.
“Karen has led many of Beringea’s investments over the past 8 years, including some of our star portfolio companies, and she has a great reputation with entrepreneurs. We are pleased to have Karen joining the ranks of too few female senior partners in the private equity industry.”
Karen McCormick said, “It’s an amazing time to be at Beringea. We have had several strong fundraising years stemming from attractive investor returns, and we are off to a great start on our current fundraising. The portfolio is very strong thanks to our outstanding entrepreneurs, and the rapidly expanding team brings fresh ideas and energy, complementing our long-standing senior team.”
